The laptop batteries are draining so fast and there is no apparent reason. You might be wondering why your laptops battery is draining so much faster than usual, but don’t worry we will discuss the reasons behind it. Here are some reasons that will help you understand why your laptop’s battery drains so fast:
Intermittent Power Supply
Common problem among laptops with no built-in UPS/surge protector is that when there’s an unexpected interruption in electricity supply [blackout], the system instantly switches over from AC power [from mains] to DC [battery]. This makes batteries drained out & computer shut down automatically before damage occurs need it running all the time, at least schedule it to start automatically only because the sudden fluctuation could be beyond the battery’s charging capacity.
Using high power-consuming peripherals
Laptops are not meant to be used with all the possible features enabled on them 24×7. A serious drain on battery life is caused by connecting certain unnecessary accessories/devices which consumes more energy than grounds for e.g., Bluetooth devices, wireless network adapters, etc… Just make sure you turn off WiFi adapter when no need it & further save power consumption by switching it back to its nth level of adaptability using command airplane control –adapter=<0-4>. You can also disable Bluetooth entirely if you don’t use any Bluetooth devices regularly.
Battery is damaged or worn out
This happens mostly to batteries having poor quality control before they were released for sale. When using, they tend to suffer from overheating, excessive discharging/charging & an inability to hold charge; the later one makes it worst because battery drain occurs even when the laptop is not plugged in and you’re just carrying it around.
Your software could be running in background with no reason
If you install a bunch of apps thinking that it might be useful but hardly used them or just once & forgotten about them, then there’s a good chance such apps are still running with no reasons behind [or you simply missed killing them]. Worse case is if they turned out to be malware installed on your PC [which takes over your start-up items] . Uninstalling suspicious apps though will risk losing the functionality it provided and you might not be able to install them again.
To prevent this, open task manager [in Windows] and make sure all apps in start-up items are used frequently or at least can provide a real value. Also make sure anti-malware/virus programs installed on your PC is updated regularly & set such programs to scan all start-up items routinely.
Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is virus ridden
Much a battery draining reason but Hard Disk Drive corruption could cause other problems for your laptop too; like making it extremely slow, unable to boot into windows, etc . So in case your HDD turned out to be one of the causes in draining your battery faster than in time, it should be dealt with first.
Power management settings should be set to appropriate levels
This could be another reason why your laptop’s battery discharges very fast even without using it much . These often overlooked settings are somehow complex but easy to understand once you get used to them. Just remember the golden rule of power management: “the less demanding/battery draining features enabled, the better”. You can use battery Eater Pro software for this purpose and you will see a huge difference.
