This post will walk you through how to disable the touchpad on an Asus Laptop. This is especially helpful if you’re using a mouse or trackpad and want to get rid of any extra movements that may get in your way. Let’s go over some of the steps below!
Getting Started
To disable the trackpad, you’ll need to start by opening your Asus Laptop’s Start Menu. Once you’re at the Start Menu, just type in “mouse settings” into the search bar and it should bring up a few options for you.
This will open up a new window with a few different choices. You can see that I have mine set to “third option,” since I prefer my trackpad off while using a mouse or trackpad– but if you want to keep yours enabled, then go ahead and pick the first option on here so that it says “Disable.” The other two options are probably best if you choose one of them instead of turning it completely off. On the first option, your touchpad will still work but you won’t be able to use gestures with it. If you choose the second option, your touchpad will be completely turned off.
Once you’ve decided on which of the thr visible without activated touch pad.ee options you want, just hit “Apply” and it will save your changes! You’re all set to go now.
Shortcut Key
Most laptop models today have a shortcut on / off touchpad. For Asus laptops, this key combination is a key press F9 or Fn + F9. Note that each brand usually has a unique combination, not the same. If you want to turn on the touchpad again, press this combination again. However, this method is not always possible, users must download the software (specifically Asus Smart Gesture) to install the touchpad. If there is a separate mouse, the touchpad is no longer effective.
Turn off with Keyboard Service
If using both of the simple methods above still doesn’t disable the touchpad as expected, you can try this third method.
- Press the Windows + R key combination, open the Run window> type search for services.msc.
- The Services menu will appear, click Name, find Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service.
- Touchpad panel will appear, find the Startup type and press Disable.
- Find the Service status and press Stop to turn off the Service.
- Click OK to save the settings.
With this method, you must restart the laptop for the new settings to activate.
how to turn off touchpad on asus laptop windows 10?
Just like in the previous section, we’ll start by opening up your Start Menu and typing in “mouse settings” into the search bar.
This will open up a new window with a few different choices. You can see that my touchpad is currently set to “Disable.” If you want to turn it off, just choose the “Disable” option and hit “Apply.” Your touchpad will now be turned off!
If at any time you want to enable your touchpad again, just go back into the mouse settings and choose the “Enable” option. This will turn your touchpad back on and you can use it as normal.
That’s all there is to it! Disabling or enabling your Asus Laptop’s touchpad is actually pretty easy and you can do it quickly on Windows 10.
How do I turn off the track pad on an Asus Laptop
Change, or disable options for your Asus Track Pad settings in Windows 10, 8, 7 & XP operating systems. We have covered most of the modern ASUS laptops the installation is same the only difference between models would be BIOS which does not let user configure TouchPad and other features (and you should always try to avoid installing manufacturer provided software) and if it then we provide alternate methods to achieve the same.
