I wanted to know how much the screen is when I measured it with a measuring tape, but since it does not seem possible to measure the screen size without taking off the laptop’s front part, I was wondering if there were tools like that in shops or online stores.
If you want to measure laptop screen size yourself…
This person measured his laptop’s screen by putting double-sided tape on top of it before buying an extension computer monitor. You can also try using double-sided tape if you want to measure the display size without buying an extension computer monitor.
Small Laptop Display
This person measured his laptop’s screen using software before buying a large-sized monitor. This person also recommends purchasing a desktop monitor if the screen is bigger than the laptop’s display.
I bought this one (pictured below). The size is 24 inches, which is larger than my laptop’s display, so I’m satisfied with it.
You can see your Desktop on Smartphone or Tablet
This person measured his laptop’s screen before buying a 10 inch tablet and used it as an extension of the computer.
Yes, you can see the contents of your desktop on a smartphone or tablet. It’s called “remote display.” For example, I use this program called Splash top 2 Remote Display (pictured below). You have to download it onto your PC and then install the app onto another device that supports remote access via Splash top 2. There are also similar apps for Android users. Then, simply connect both devices to the same WIFI network.
Use software to measure the laptop’s screen size (such as this)
This person found that the screen on his notebook measured 13.5 inches diagonally, and used that measurement to buy a 17-inch monitor. So you can use PC tools like Display Size (pictured below), which is pre-installed in Windows 10, or Screen resolution (for Windows 7) to find out the exact size of your laptop’s display.
Measure by placing double-sided tape on top of it
This person placed double-sided tape over her laptop screen before buying an external monitor, so she could determine how big the external monitor should before buying it . The photo below shows how to measure the laptop’s screen size properly.
Measure with a ruler and a piece of paper
This person measured her laptop’s display by counting the number of letters on the smartphone (pictured below). This is similar to what does, but instead of using double-sided tape, this person counts the width of each letter on her smartphone as she moves it across the screen. For example, there are two columns and three rows of text in an article like this: if you count 1 cell for each column because there are 2 columns and 2 cells for each row because there are 3 rows , that means the screen measures 5 cells wide and 4 cells high. If we assume that one cell corresponds to 0.5 cm, then the screen measures 3.0 cm x 2.5 cm, which means the size is 10 inch diagonal .
Measure by using a ruler and a calculator

At first glance it seems like an easy way to measure because you don’t need anything except for your phone and notebook, but it takes more time than using double-sided tape to measure properly, so it may be better to use double-sided tape if you don’t have much patience.
I used my iPhone as measurement tool too!
I placed my iPhone (which has 4 inches) over my laptop (pictured below). After that, I moved the phone over my laptop screen and counted how many lines of text are on the monitor at once. I guessed it’s “6” because of this case (pictured below) where the display size is measured as 6 inch diagonal. Although it doesn’t look exactly right, you can try using an iPhone to measure your laptop screen too!
