If you’re in the market for a new laptop, one thing you’ll want to consider is whether it has two nvme slots. Here’s why this feature is so important, and why you should make sure your next laptop has it.
What is nvme?
nvme is the newest SSD standard, which means it’s faster than ever before. For example, consider these benchmarks of the Samsung 970 pro vs 960 evo. The speeds are incredible! Even the older generation nvme drives are much faster than regular hard drives.

Samsung 970 PRO NVMe M.2 1TB Performance: Sequential Read Speed : 3500 MB/s | Sequential Write Speed : 2100 MB/s Random Read Speed : 500000 IOPS | Random Write Speed : 500000 IOPS
We put this little DIY project together inside a decade old external enclosure to see what happens when you try to use a TLC based 480GB SSD. The results speak for themselves – over twice the performance! There is no doubt that upgrading from an HDD to an SSD will bring with it dramatically improved PC responsiveness, but there are few situations more satisfying than watching Windows boot up from cold in 8 seconds flat, which is exactly what we got with our DIY 480GB mSATA SSD upgrade kit.

What is NVME used for?
One of the most common uses of nvme is to store your operating system and games on it, so they can load much more quickly. For example, when you go to launch a game like Fallout 4, if the application files are stored on an SSD (which they should be), then the game will start in just a few seconds – no waiting around! Another cool thing about nvme is that it is known as “non-volatile memory”, which means that even if you turn off your computer or laptop and pull out the usb stick/sd card/ssd, its contents will remain unharmed until next time you want to use it. This makes nvme sticks great for quickly boot
ing up a computer without having to wait for the hard drive to spin up – perfect for emergency situations when you need to get online quickly.
Why do you need 2 nvme slots?
Ideally, you want your laptop to have two nvme slots so that you can take advantage of all that nvme has to offer. For example, if you have two different nvme drives – like a Samsung 970 pro and a 960 evo – then you can RAID them together for even more speed! This is because the two drives will act as one, with the combined read and write speeds being much faster than either of the individual drives. You can also create an “extended” RAID configuration, which gives you added protection against drive failure.
If your laptop doesn’t have two nvme slots, then you’re definitely missing out on some of the best performance that storage technology has to offer. If you can, consider upgrading to a newer model that does have this feature – you won’t regret it!
laptop with multiple m.2 slots for nvme drives
There are a few laptops on the market that have multiple m.2 slots for nvme drives. These laptops typically have two or four slots, which gives you the option to install multiple nvme drives. This can be helpful if you need more storage space, or if you want to improve your computer’s performance.
If you’re looking for a laptop with multiple m.2 slots for nvme drives, there are a few models that you might consider. The Dell XPS 15 9560, for example, has four m.2 slots. And the HP Spectre x360 13-w023dx has two m.2 slots.
