Laptops can be great to use when you are on the go, but sometimes your laptop is using too much ram and it gets annoying. I know this because my laptop is always lagging and freezing up. This doesn’t happen all of the time, but enough to make me want to find out why my laptop uses too much ram and how I can solve this problem. Hopefully by reading this blog post you will learn a few things about laptops and how they work that might help you with your own laptop problems!
When I leave my computer running for a while, maybe while watching a movie, maybe just as it starts up, maybe it never happens before I shut it down, ram usage goes to 99% usage.
When this happens windows begins to swap memory to the page file, which makes the drive that has it work at 100%. At least now It’s in a hard drive, it was in an SSD before, awful idea to have it working at 100%. At these times my PC becomes sluggish, can’t do anything and have to reboot, sometimes forcing it is the only option
Memory RAM is a very important part of your computer because it is basically the “working” memory that allows programs to run. RAM gets used up just like any other resource on your computer such as processing, storage and graphics.
In order for you laptop to go from one program or screen to another, it needs free space in the working memory bank which makes the system work faster and more efficiently.
RAM can be compared to a room full of people all trying to make their way across a crowded room at the same time using limited space. The limited space then becomes overwhelmed with people and no one has anywhere left to move. This would then cause even more hurtles towards those trying to cross the room as now they have even less open spaces.
Now that you have a better understanding of what RAM is and how it works, you can now start to understand why your laptop uses too much RAM. This might be from having more programs open at the same time or more windows on your screen. By closing down unused programs/web pages, you can free up some space and make your computer work faster!
Using too much RAM is not only annoying but also very frustrating. I know this because my laptop was always lagging and freezing up when scrolling through web pages or using tabs in my web browser with multiple pages open. There are things that could cause this problem:
If there is an internal hardware failure such as a bad hard drive, then the whole computer system will stop working properly which is why if your laptop is not booting up or showing signs of power, then this could be a reason for your computer using too much RAM.
A bad driver can also cause sometimes cause your laptop to use too much RAM. This can happen with any hardware component but happens most with the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). If the GPU becomes faulty, then it will start to use excess amounts of RAM which can cause your computer to freeze or lag.
